XTERRA Wellington Festival 2026

February 28th, 2026
Wellington

Our volunteers giving their time and energy bring smiles to everyone’s faces, and elevate the event to a level beyond imagination! If you want to be part of the team of legends who make these events available and accessible for the runners, we would love to hear from you.

At Barefoot Sport, we believe in one underlying force that helps guide our overarching philosophy: bringing people together as a community. We love NZ and the outdoors, and we aim to create spectacular events every time we step outside.

Volunteer roles vary in size and effort, so you can put your hand up for something you know you’ll feel comfortable doing and can have fun while you’re at it. We have them all listed in the volunteer registration form so you can sign up and select your preference.

If you’re not sure what to sign up for, or have questions about what a role might require, have a look at our role descriptions below.

Volunteer role descriptions – please note these are generic to cover the general requirements. When your role is assigned you will receive specific information (including times, locations, and specific instructions for the position.)

Aid Station – be the ultimate trail-side hero by fuelling athletes with snacks, hydration, and high-energy cheers along the course; this includes setting up and packing down the aid station.

Course Marshal – cheering runners, directing runners, responding to and reporting injuries if required, directing spectators.

Finish Line – celebrating finishers with high fives, sweaty hugs, handing out medals, snacks and drinks.

Ops Crew - Set up/Pack down  – build the festival from the ground up, handling the heavy lifting, equipment assembly, and physical tear-down that makes this event possible.

Parking Marshal – assisting participants with parking in an orderly fashion, directing cars, reminding pedestrians of moving vehicles, directing pedestrians towards race start.

Registration  – be the first friendly face our athletes see by welcoming them to the festival, checking them in, and getting their race bibs and timing chips ready for the start line.

Transition – help athletes navigate the high-energy transition area of the race by guiding smooth switches between the bike and run legs for our duathlon athletes.

There are no shifts available at this time.
